Our Story

Maxwell Buskey, founder of The Ugly Onion, received a B.S. in sustainable agriculture. The Ugly Onion catering company was born from his passion for sustainable food systems. While working on a vegetable farm in Vermont, he noticed how many vegetables were going to waste due to visual blemishes or minor defects. Because of their appearance, they could not be sold at the market. Here at The Ugly Onion, we find a use for second vegetables. We buy veggies directly from local farms so customers can become more connected with their food and with each other. Our events are all outdoors so people can gather to celebrate weddings, graduations, birthdays, or other special occasions.

Our Mission

The Ugly Onion offers an unconventional approach to catering with our mobile kitchen and wood-fired oven. Our outdoor setup allows for a unique connection to local food and provides a one-of-a-kind experience for guests. With our friendly staff and our open-concept design, guests are able to interact with their food in a new way.
